Balayage · Mill Valley, California
Hand-painted balayage that grows out as beautifully as it goes on.
Soft, lived-in color painted by hand and tailored to your hair — dimensional from day one, and still looking intentional months later. Created with clean, ammonia-free color at a private studio in Mill Valley.
The Technique
What balayage actually is.
My Approach
Color built around your hair, not a formula.
Painted, Not Packaged
Every placement is decided in front of the mirror, with your cut, your part, and the way your hair moves in mind. No two balayages here are mapped the same way.
Designed for the Grow-Out
I formulate for how your color will look in month three, not just the day you leave. That's what turns a beautiful appointment into color you actually get to live with.
Clean, Ammonia-Free Color
I work with certified organic NATULIQUE and ammonia-free ARÊTE, chosen for how they perform and for what they leave out — gentler on hair and on you.

Good to Know
Balayage questions, answered.
How is balayage different from highlights?
Traditional highlights are applied in foils starting at the root, which creates a uniform, repeating pattern and a visible line of regrowth within a couple of months. Balayage is painted by hand and placed more softly away from the root, so it reads like natural sun lightening and grows out gradually instead of all at once.
How long does a balayage appointment take?
Most balayage appointments run two and a half to four hours, depending on your hair's length, density, and where it's starting from. Going significantly lighter, or correcting previous color, can take longer. We'll talk through timing at your consultation so there are no surprises on the day.
How often will I need to come back?
Most clients come in every three to four months, and some comfortably stretch it further. That's the real advantage of balayage over foil highlights — with no harsh regrowth line, it keeps looking intentional for much longer between appointments.
Is balayage damaging to my hair?
Any lightening service asks something of the hair, but balayage is generally gentler than a full head of highlights, because less of the hair is lightened and the root area is often left untouched. I work with clean, ammonia-free color lines and build each formula around the condition your hair is actually in, rather than forcing a result it can't hold.
Does balayage work on dark or brunette hair?
Absolutely. Balayage is beautiful on brunettes, and done well it adds warmth and movement without looking striped or turning brassy. Darker hair often needs a more gradual approach across more than one appointment in order to lift cleanly, and we'll map that out together so you know what to expect.
Can balayage be combined with gray blending?
Yes, and it's one of my favorite things to do. Painting color through gray rather than covering it edge to edge means the gray becomes part of the dimension instead of something you're constantly chasing — and the grow-out stays soft rather than forming a line.
How do I keep my balayage looking good at home?
Wash less often than you think you need to, use a sulfate-free shampoo, and keep heat tools moderate and protected. I'll send you home knowing exactly which products suit your hair, and a gloss between appointments keeps the tone fresh if your color runs warm over time.
